N ot a m e m b e r ? J o i n at a s so c iate d h a i rp rofe s sio n a ls .c o m 53 Are they bangs or fringe? I have called them both over the years and, depending on the company I worked for at the time, they would insist on one term or the other. But really, they're the same thing. I use both words to describe the small but very important area of hair that falls over the forehead and defines a client's look and style. Bangs are one of the quickest ways to update a client's look. As we move further into 2023, we are seeing so many options for bangs that it makes taking the plunge easier. So, if you are wondering how to confidently analyze your client's face shape, recommend the proper fringe for their look, and execute a clean cut, consider the following methods. As an educator in the hair industry, one of my most requested classes is the one I call "Fringe Benefits." The course dives deep into analyzing your client's face shape and the different ways to cut fringes. The questions from clients always come rolling in: Should I get bangs? What type of bangs look good with my face shape? Where should I part my hair? If you could do anything with my hair, what would it be? These are the questions that slow us down in the salon and really make us think. Bangs are a commitment for our guests, and we want them to be happy when they leave the salon.
