THE TREND Craving Color Expect to see these hair colors throughout 2023 by Catherine Santino Between the recent Y2K-style resurgence and celebrity-led highlighting trends, 2023 is shaping up to be an exciting year for hair color. You can be sure to see a wide range of color requests from your clients, including a return to natural-looking, lived-in color—a 180-degree swing from the highly processed platinum trends of years past. "Since a lot of people are doing these trends coming from super platinum blonde or previously damaged hair, using a bond protector is so important for keeping these colors looking fresh," says hairstylist Melanie Hasson (@melaniehasson on TikTok). "My go-to is the Epres Professional Bond Repair Treatment. It helps the hair be healthier and shinier. Healthy hair holds on to color so much better than damaged hair." Despite the uptick in effortless styles, bold color trends are still on the menu for 2023. "Money piece" highlights continue to be hugely popular, and thanks in part to Barbie reentering the zeitgeist, playful pink hues are on the rise. Ahead, experts share the four biggest hair color trends of the moment. LIVED-IN COLOR A head full of bright, chunky highlights was the norm in the early 2000s, but in 2023, more clients are gravitating toward lived-in color. Also called "candlelit color," this highlighting trend adds subtle dimension for a natural and effortless look. Think Hailey Bieber's recent sandy brunette transformation.
