Explore your benefits at ahphair.com 45 IS: How do you balance the pressures of being a business owner and a boss and a hair artist all at the same time? TJD: Honestly, it depends on the day. As a business owner, you always have a list of things that you never get to the end of. You're just adding to it and knocking things off . So, mentally, sometimes it's hard for me to be present in each of those roles and to allow those roles to overlap. If I have a bad day, if I'm struggling, my team is so amazing. ey will say, "What can I take off your plate?" When I really sit back and refl ect, I can see that I'm succeeding. Although when I'm in the thick of it, I feel like I'm drowning. So, to answer your question, I don't know. Every day is diff erent. IS: at's the best answer. Anyone who says it's easy isn't being honest. TJD: Even when you have a team, [it can be complicated]. I had a manager [at Lumos Nox], my best friend for 15 years, who ended up [hurting the business before she le ]. We were all disappointed. Picking up the tasks that she did was hard, but my team really showed up when that happened. I hired her about six months before my husband passed away. at was a saving grace for that time where I could barely do anything. She really helped keep the ball rolling during that dark time in my life. I'm sad that friendship has ended.
