Neon Rainbow Color Block by Shellie Vega If you spent the early aughts using Gelly Roll pens to write in Lisa Frank notebooks, this look will take you back. e combination of neon rainbow hues and color blocking is the ideal switch-up for your more daring color clients who want to spice up their lives. Follow these easy steps and copy the formulas for the best results. THE FORMULAS • Base formula—Danger Jones Semi-Permanent Color in Hysteria (berry) and Hustler (pink). For the model shown here, using Hustler over her mint canvas shied to a magenta with violet undertones. • Neon rainbow formula—Danger Jones Semi-Permanent Color in Lovesick (neon pink), Hotwire (neon orange), Ray Gun (neon yellow), Adrenaline (neon green), and Vertigo (neon blue). • Front le panel formula—Danger Jones Semi-Permanent Color in Hysteria, Hustler, and Burnout (orange). GET THE LOOK 1. Get the new growth lied with Danger Jones Lightener and use the Danger Jones Color Remover and 5 volume developer to li out residual semipermanent color from the previous canvas. 2. Once the root is lied to a clean level 9 and aer color removal, deposit the neon rainbow prisms through the surface on the lighter parts of the canvas and color shi anywhere else. On dry hair, section three small quadrants on the surface mohawk area. 3. To melt the majority of the base color, start at the top of the head with Hysteria, dragging down about two inches, and apply down to the nape. As you work your way back up the head, apply Hustler over the remaining hair in a half section, using up-and- down and side-to-side motions to ensure there's full saturation and no hollow spots le behind. en, use your fingers to blend up and down to melt the two colors together. Continue that process all the way back up the top of the head. 4. To create the rainbow prisms, start at a diagonal and place a clear film under a section. Take a fine slice and apply each color about an inch down, starting with Lovesick, then melted Hotwire, Ray Gun, Adrenaline, and Vertigo, moving the brush side to side as you apply each color to ensure full saturation and blend. Where Vertigo and Lovesick meet, blur the colors together to create a transitional violet. 5. Slice the next section and apply the same colors directly over each section. is changes the color pattern at the root, going in the opposite color order from what's on the film starting with Lovesick. Repeat until entire section is complete, then repeat application at a diagonal in the back-le quadrant using the same color pattern. 6. e final panel remaining is the front le. Apply Hysteria first about two inches down through the whole section, then work back up and apply Hustler just to the midsha, working the color in side-to- side motions to melt and merge the colors with your fingers. Wipe your hands clean and apply the final color, Burnout, on the ends using the same side-to- side motion to melt and merge the two colors. 7. Process for 35 minutes at room temperature. en rinse with high pressure (cool water) and condition. 8. Dry the hair and style. I curled away from the face with the Olivia Garden 1-Inch Titanium + ion Curling Iron. Finish by combing out the curls with a wide-tooth comb once the hair cools.
