44 AHP Indie Stylist Volume 6 Issue 2 IS: How did you navigate the COVID-19 shutdowns a er you had recently opened your salon? TJD: at was the fi rst time I really took a stance with our salon and a stance in the community, and that has served us well as a business. It was our goal to be the safest salon. We were going to be the cleanest. We were going to give you the distance you needed. We were going to ask your permission if there were two people working on you. And the thing that was beautiful about that is it brought us so many clients who didn't feel comfortable at other places. A lot of the salon owners in the area, especially at bigger salons, didn't take a stance. We have a sign in the front that says, "Y'all are welcome, but you gotta act right." We live that. You better not say anything that's going to upset somebody sitting next to you. You better care about people and care about your neighbor. We very much stick to that stance. at's how I got through and kept my head on straight.
