72 AHP Indie Stylist Volume 6 Issue 2 Choose Your Path What makes and keeps stylists happy? Eleven peers weigh in on the beauty of belonging, the power of education, the value of career options, and their personal "why." CHOOSE YOUR PATH KAYLA MOSLEY Master Stylist | Florida 2.5 years with Ulta Beauty My why: When I was looking for a salon home, the biggest things I sought were education, growth opportunities, and great culture, and Ulta Beauty met all those requirements. My path: I had the amazing opportunity to be a part of the Assistant Stylist program and be mentored by a top-performing stylist, Deja. She set me up with the proper tools to become successful. I received great education on techniques, products, and how to establish my business mindset for continuous growth. I exceeded $80K in services sales in 2024, my second year. Belonging: I was welcomed with open arms from not just an incredible salon team but a fantastic store. Ulta Beauty truly brought "the beauty of belonging" to life. SHYLOH HADLEY Elite Stylist | Design Team | Pennsylvania 8 years with Ulta Beauty My why: I came to Ulta Beauty because of the team! I loved the idea of working in a close-knit salon that encouraged collaboration. I knew I would be supported as I began my career. I was also drawn to the vibrant personalities and diversity I saw in my location. In my technical interview, I saw stylists working with all types of hair and doing everything from blondes to curls to vivids, so I knew no matter what I wanted to specialize in, Ulta Beauty had it. Belonging: It's easy to say we want a space to be inclusive and then not follow it up with action. Ulta Beauty is making room every day for more friends to come to the party. I see it everywhere in our spaces— from growing brands that cater to all skin colors and types, to gender-neutral bathrooms in my store, to empowering stylists to feel confident working with all hair types. I'm so grateful to have a platform to share not just my skills but also my perspective as a transgender stylist. Every day I go to work is like a fun hangout with friends. ere's room for you here no matter who you are. advertisement "Ulta Beauty makes sure everyone—both team members and guests— feels seen, respected, and welcomed." —Amanda Diaz, Elite Stylist
