I asked Garcia and Tran about the most popular viral trends on the short hair scene today (the ones that don't have self-explanatory names) what they are, and how these speci cations tie back to the basic forms of a short haircut. The Butterfl y "The butter y involves a cut with short layers that have soft, wispy ends," Garcia explains. Tran adds that the '70s/'80s-inspired look is essentially a face-framing shag. The Curtain The curtain can be worn on any of the three fundamental short haircuts. The identifying feature is its center parting and long bangs. "This is a take on a very '90s look," Tran says. "It's versatile and works on many face shapes, featuring a middle part with lifted roots and feathered ends to frame the forehead and face." The Wolf According to Garcia, the wolf is a textured, wild style with a lot of volume. The untamed appearance of heavy face-framing layers best lends itself to an edgy shag haircut.
