Cutting the Hair Use round graduation to create a smooth connection from the sides to the back, slimming down fl at surfaces and keeping weight at the rounded areas. To cut the right panel, create a diagonal section starting from the sideburns, cutting close to the head at a 90-degree elevation. Cutting this section fi rst makes it easier for the taper later on. Moving from section three and on, overdirect to the previous section where the head rounds and elevate where it is fl at. Transitioning to the back near the mastoid, preserve length at the nape by removing hair from the cutting line; continue this process until you reach the middle point of the back, then switch to the left panel. To cut the left panel, start from the temple and end at the middle point of the back. Repeat the same cutting process as the right panel. To cut the top panel, use round layers to promote movement and add shape. Create a profi le section and establish a guideline by connecting the back length to the top length. Follow your guideline, cutting each section to the roundness of the head. Refi ne the sides and nape. Taper the sideburns for a clean fi nish. Defi ne the nape by cutting a clean line along the external length for a sharp, polished look, or taper the nape for a clean fi nish. Remove weight by pointcutting heavier areas.
