54 AHP Indie Stylist Volume 6 Issue 1 Working with Men's Styles Men across the board are becoming bolder when it comes to hairstyles, with many taking a cue from celebrities who aren't afraid to push the boundaries of style. Longer hairstyles are trending like never before, and for many men, the true challenge lies in cultivating the patience required to embark on the hair-growth journey necessary to achieve their desired look. "If a client has short hair but the photo shows more length, I may not cut back as much in a certain area and shape other areas to allow him to grow into a slightly longer length that gets him closer to the goal," says Patrick Butler, barber at V's Barbershop. Butler says the mullet continues to live, but the shape has started to evolve. "Instead of the heavily weighted 'party in the back,' the length has drawn in a bit. More texture and movement are shown in the interior. Also, the sides below the temple are being faded in cleanly and then transitioning into length in the sides." Other popular looks for men also lean into length. Butler is seeing a variety of shapes ranging from the "alpaca" with messy weight on the front hairline to a "flow," where layers shift back and lay naturally. Also, a short crop continues to be in demand. TRANSITIONAL STYLING STRATEGIES If your client isn't all-in on making a dramatic change or if their lifestyle or workplace requires a subtle transition, you might suggest a more gradual approach. is approach is Men across the board are becoming bolder when it comes to hairstyles, with many taking a cue from celebrities who aren't afraid to push the boundaries of style. pexels
