Always advise clients to get regular trims so their split ends don't eat up their hair shaft. Unhealthy hair can become very frizzy. STYLES BY CURL TYPE It's crucial for clients to understand their curl type so they can embrace their natural hair journey, pick styles they like (and that work for them), and manage expectations. Basic natural hairstyles include wash-and-go styles, individual two-strand twists, three-strand twist outs, flat twists, twist outs, braid outs, cornrows, rod sets, comb coils or finger coils, pompadours, and twisted updos. More advanced protective styles are also good for natural styling, including crochet, wigs, braids, and twist extensions. Your client's hair texture determines how long their advanced protective styles should last. As a rule of thumb, they'll last around 4–6 weeks. By then, their hair should have grown out about an inch, and it will start to pull from the scalp, causing breakage if they don't come in for another appointment. Your clients with wavy and curly hair types can do wash- and-go styles with the proper products to define and hold their curl pattern in place.
