N ot a m e m b e r ? J o i n at a s so c iate d h a i rp rofe s sio n a ls .c o m 7 Making a Fresh Start N ew beginnings can be tough. But they're also a time of excitement, wonder, and hope. As I begin my journey as the editor of AHP Indie Stylist, I am lled with all of these emotions. Yes, it's daunting to ll the large shoes Mary Abel left behind, but I'm also excited for the future of this publication and the endless possibilities in front of me. I rmly believe this is how you should approach the fall and winter seasons. Rather than letting it be a time of hunkering down and feeling sorrow about the end of warmer days, let this be your opportunity to face the mysterious future head-on. We'll get you started with a few ideas. For a fresh perspective on going bald, I recommend checking out Catherine Santino's feature "Empowering Clients to Embrace Change" (page 34). Santino breaks down how to discuss baldness with your clients and help them feel ready to make the decision that's best for them. On page 40, you'll nd Lisa Bakewell's feature "Planning to Go Solo?" where she discusses the pros and cons of venturing out on your own as a solopreneur. As for expanding your skill set? Learn more about marketing yourself and your business on social media (page 18), and discover how to increase your pay the easy way— through extensions (page 46). And as always, browse our artist collective for a dose of creative inspiration (page 75). From my new beginning at AHP to your new adventures this fall and winter, may we all nd the thrill in the unknown. FROM THE EDITOR Editor janderson@ahphair.com @j3nand3rson I 've never been great at saying goodbye, but just as the changing seasons are inevitable, so are changes in life. And so, I leave AHP Indie Stylist in the capable hands of Jen Anderson, who I know is excited to keep bringing you the news and articles you've come to expect from your member magazine. I'm so grateful for these past years, during which I've learned so much, met so many of you at trade shows and conferences, and—hopefully—helped every AHP member move their career forward. I wish you every success, FOLLOW US ONLINE! @ahphair @ahphairpros facebook.com/ahphair
