44 indie stylist Volume 3 Issue 2 WEBSITE Many business owners set up a website to display their location, services, and a price list. While this is great information to have on your site, websites can offer so much more. You can start a blog, hold promotions, answer frequent questions, sell products, share news, promote special events, and more. You might also consider adding an online scheduler that allows your clients to schedule their appointments 24/7. And ecommerce, with drop shipping, is a great way to increase sales and make money while you sleep. EMAIL AND NEWSLETTERS Whatever message you want to spread to your clients becomes easy when using email campaigns in coordination with your newsletter. Mailchimp and Constant Contact are two providers that offer drag-and-drop templates. CROSS-MARKETING Refer your client to a skin care specialist, nail tech, or massage therapist you trust. Build relationships with other professionals who have clients who would benefit from your services and vice versa. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Hold a grand opening and invite clients to bring a friend with them. Sell gift cards and showcase your products. For local charity events and auctions, give a product gift basket or offer your services. Reach out to your local chamber of commerce for its community calendar, and determine how your business can participate in the chamber's events. NETWORKING Network with experts in your area, such as accountants, lawyers, and business consultants. Don't go it alone. Building these business relationships is a direct correlation to your success as a business owner. These individuals may give you a competitive advantage and help your business achieve its objectives. Create a Presence (on the cheap!) When starting your new business, the key is to market it economically, while simultaneously gaining the most impact. So, let's take a closer look at some of the ways to market your business. WORD-OF-MOUTH MARKETING Naturally occurring, word-of-mouth marketing is where clients share their satisfaction with your brand. It will always be the most valuable way to promote your business, since there's no actual investment. Provide outstanding service and your clients will rave about you. Another way to get clients to spread the word? Start a referral program. BUSINESS CARDS Business cards are an old standby, but for good reason. They're inexpensive, and you can hand them out to everyone. Another idea is to turn your business card into a promotional tool by featuring a "gift for you" on the back (i.e., a complimentary shampoo). SOCIAL MEDIA Use social media outlets to stay connected with clients and increase your exposure for free. Here are some easy ways to start: • Consider starting a Facebook group and inviting your clients to join. When you post, they will be notified automatically. • You can use YouTube to post a tour of your space or share educational snippets. Clients will love to see what your business looks like before they arrive. • Instagram is a great option for reaching potential clients by posting stories and photos to promote an event or a special. toa heftiba/unsplash
