the spark
nspiration keeps us fresh and
excited to try new things.
But even when we're not doing
something new, we need to continually
change the way we do everyday things
to find stimulation.
For me, inspiration isn't always at my
fingertips. Instead, it's something I search for
and periodically feel challenged to find.
Years ago, I would have told you I was
inspired by photos in magazines, watching the
runways of fashion week, and checking out looks
on the red carpet. Nowadays, my inspiration
comes from myriad sources. Following are
seven ways to discover that creative spark.
1. Look outside yourself. I believe one reason I
have been so motivated as a stylist—and have
a degree of success in the salon industry—is
because I don't always need external sources
of inspiration. Of course, it's nice to come
upon something that lights a new fire, but I
now understand that if I rely on external forces
alone (such as the media, celebrity looks, and
fashion events), then I'm missing all the little
things around me each day. And I am certain
these little things are actually the big things.
