I love the power of this
image—it celebrates
the strength and beauty
of this amazing model.
When creating the looks
for this editorial, I wanted
to honor and celebrate
the models' natural hair
texture. I focused on
molding their natural
texture into various styles
and shapes. For this look,
I molded Kamari's hair
into a classic beehive
shape. The key was
to just use her natural
texture and piece it into
shape using only my
fingers, a tail comb, and
pick, and I secured it
using pins with very little
product.
When working on
editorial stories, I tend to
have more input on the
hair and makeup looks
versus commercial work
(where looks are curated
by the client and the
company's aesthetic and
brand). I love working on
set and the energy that's
created when artists
come together and do
what they love.
