My Natural Doll: Keleshe
My Natural Doll was customized by Mushiya Tshikuka, one of my clients and
the creator of Runway Curls, a natural hair extension line. I met Tshikuka in
2015, when she was in the early stages of building her hair line. I was her lead
hairstyling specialist to create hair units, hair pieces, and style for various events,
commercials, video/photo shoots, hair shows, and personal styling. Tshikuka was
also one of the lead characters on Cutting It in the ATL, which aired on WEtv. For
the run of two seasons, I was featured on the show and styled for her company.
My Natural Doll was introduced in the second season, where I came in during the
preproduction and created the hairstyle for the first line of dolls. I designed and
installed the hair using human hair extensions from Tshikuka's line. It was the first
time I was asked to help create a natural doll whose hair would be so realistic
that little Black and Brown girls would have a doll that resembled them—one
they could play with and style the hair. @runwaycurls
