N ot a m e m b e r ? J o i n at a s so c iate d h a i rp rofe s sio n a ls .c o m 9 Full Steam Ahead We're halfway through 2022. How are you feeling? Is your book filled to capacity? Are you learning new skills and techniques? Working on your marketing strategy? Feeling good about your business and the industry? Your team at Associated Hair Professionals (AHP) is feeling great about the future. We're hitting the beauty trade shows, meeting members, learning about the newest tools, techniques, and trends—and giving out awards (see some fun pictures from our Influencers of the Year Awards celebration on page 22). Speaking of awards, we're excited to introduce you to our first Indie Barber of the Year, David Peters. Known as "Pittsburgh Dave," this relatively new barber impressed us with his drive to thrive and how his mad social media skills allowed him to find his niche in the Pittsburgh sports culture. Check out his story on page 38. This is an ideal time to learn more about the art of barbering, as it seems barbers are really coming into their own. They are true Instagram influencers—like our friend Barber A-Rod (@arod23pr), who has more than 2 million followers—and are showing their talents at trade shows and competitions across the country. More women are becoming barbers too, including AHP's 2022 Barber Influencer of the Year, Lici Febo. In this issue, she talks to us about her journey into the profession and what it was like making her mark in a "boy's club." She also offers lots of advice to anyone interested in diving into the world of barbering. You can learn more about Lici starting on page 46. I hope you can find a few moments to slow down, take a breath, and enjoy this issue. And remember, AHP is here for you, the independent stylist. Let us know what we can do for you! Cheers, Mary Barthelme Abel, Editor FROM THE EDITOR The team and I hope you enjoy this issue of AHP Indie Stylist magazine. Please share your feedback with us at editor @ associatedhairprofessionals.com or share a pic of yourself reading the magazine and tag @ AHPhair on Instagram.
